Instructions

The story behind the drink

The Espresso Martini combines the best of both worlds: coffee and cocktails. The story begins in the 1980s when a famous bartender, Dick Bradsell, was approached by a patron who wanted a drink to "wake her up and then f*** her up." With this inspiration, Bradsell mixed vodka, coffee liqueur, espresso, and a touch of sugar syrup, creating the now-iconic Espresso Martini. This caffeinated concoction took the cocktail scene by storm, captivating coffee lovers and cocktail enthusiasts alike. With its rich coffee flavour and velvety texture, the Espresso Martini has become a staple for late-night revellers and those in need of an energising pick-me-up. Our festive variation will keep purists happy as well as any fan of gingerbread – a real Christmas treat.

The ingredients

Our Gingerbread Espresso Martini is made with Sapling vodka, distilled exclusively from British wheat. It’s distilled four times, resulting in a very clean, crisp, and naturally sweet taste. The purity brings out herbaceous and citrusy notes which lends itself beautifully to vodka tonics, vodka lime sodas, and our cocktails. A climate positive spirit, for every bottle of Sapling we use, they plant a tree, from fruit trees in London to hazelnut trees in Suffolk. We pair this with FAIR’s Café liqueur, the most refined coffee liqueur on the market. It tastes like the best Italian espressos and is made with Arabica coffee beans from Mexico. We add cold brew espresso for an extra kick, and gingerbread, vanilla and sugar syrups to provide the right level of sweetness.

Founded by two brothers from Suffolk, our cocktails are all poured, mixed, bottled and labelled by hand, less than 15 minutes from home.
